Pursuant to the election of Sen. Troy Carter to U.S. Congress, the President of the La. State Senate has called a special election to fill the Senate District 7 vacancy. The candidate qualifying period will be held Wednesday, May 5 through Friday, May 7, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Candidates may sign Notices of Candidacy and submit the appropriate fee at either of the clerk of court’s locations: Plaquemines Parish Courthouse, 18055 Hwy. 15, Pointe-a-la-Hache, or Courthouse Annex Bldg., 301 Main St., Belle Chasse. The primary election will be held Saturday, June 12 with a run-off (if necessary) held on Saturday, July 10, 2021.

The duties and responsibilities of the Clerk of Court are established by the Louisiana Constitution. Under the Constitution the Clerk serves as the Recorder of Deeds and Mortgages, Clerk of the District Court, Treasurer for the Court system, and Chief Election Officer of the parish.
The Clerk of Court's office is not funded by ad valorem taxes. The operations of the office, including the salaries and benefits of the employees, are entirely funded by the collection of fees for the services the office provides. The Louisiana Legislature statutorily establishes all fees.
